Spider Vein Treatment
Do you have small, purple or red veins showing on your legs?
Sclerotherapy is a straightforward procedure to treat spider veins. We use a special Health Canada approved solution which is injected directly into the unwanted veins. This solution causes the veins to shrink and gradually disappear over time.
- Non-surgical and minimally invasive;
- Little to no downtime;
- Improves the appearance of spider veins.
Spider veins that have been successfully treated with sclerotherapy will not come back, but new veins may appear over time. To keep your legs looking their best, a regular treatment plan, created with your provider, will help you maintain the best results over time.
Each sclerotherapy treatment costs $300 per session. For the best results, we typically recommend 2-3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart, depending on the extent of the spider veins.

Post-Treatment Care
- Engage in light walking for at least 10-15 minutes every hour during waking hours on the day of treatment to support circulation and prevent blood pooling.
- Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated areas for 24 hours to prevent irritation and ensure optimal healing.
- Wear compression stockings as directed by your healthcare provider. Typically, this involves wearing them continuously for the first 24-48 hours, then during the day for at least 1-2 weeks. Compression aids circulation and enhances treatment outcomes.
- Avoid NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, aspirin) for 48 hours, as they can increase the risk of bruising.
- Avoid hot baths, saunas, or hot tubs for 48 hours to prevent excessive dilation of blood vessels.
- Refrain from strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and prolonged standing for 48 hours to minimize swelling and discomfort.
- Avoid direct sun exposure to treated areas for at least 2 weeks to prevent hyperpigmentation; use SPF daily if exposed to sunlight.
- Mild discomfort or aching in the treated veins is common and typically resolves within a few days.
- You may experience a mild itching or tingling sensation in the treated area for a few days.
- Mild redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection sites are common and typically subside within 1-2 weeks.
- Swelling at the injection site may persist for up to 7 days, but should gradually improve.
- Some patients may notice darkening of the veins or the appearance of small red spots (matting), which usually fade over several weeks.
- Treated veins may feel hard or lumpy before gradually softening and being absorbed by the body over 4-6 weeks.
- Bruising and discoloration will gradually fade over 1-2 weeks.
- Treated veins may take 3-6 weeks to fully close and fade from view.
- Some veins may temporarily look more prominent before resolving.
- New blood vessels (matting) may appear but usually fade over several months.
- You may require multiple sessions to achieve optimal results, depending on the extent of the treated veins.
- Initial improvements may be seen within 2-4 weeks, but full results can take 6-12 weeks as the body gradually absorbs the treated veins.
- A series of 2-4 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, is typically recommended for best results.
- Maintenance treatments may be needed every 6-12 months, depending on individual response and new vein development.
- Massage the treated area gently after 2-3 days if recommended by your provider to help disperse any trapped blood and improve results.
- Wear compression stockings as instructed to enhance circulation and support vein closure.
- Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet to promote vascular health.
- Engage in regular low-impact exercise (e.g., walking) to improve circulation.
- Avoid prolonged standing or sitting without movement to prevent blood pooling in the veins.
- Follow up with your provider for additional treatments as needed.
